This cable enables you to perform the following operations:
- Telescope Control: Use a personal computer to directly control a Meade AutoStar-equipped telescope through an astronomical software program with telescope control capabilities, such as Winstars, Meade Epoch 2000sk Sky or Starry Night Pro.
- Download from a PC: Download a new version of the AutoStar software or updated object information from the Meade web site to your AutoStar with Meade’s easy-to-use AutoStar Update (ASU) program.
This cable is functionally equivalent to the PC-to-AutoStar cable in Meade’s #505 connector set.
This cable will work with any software supporting the Meade 505 cable, including:

This cable cannot be used as a replacement for the Meade #506 cable, which is required for use with the #494 Autostar. Note that some telescopes listed above (such as the ETX-60 & EXT-70) do not come with a #495 or #497 Autostar as standard equipment, but are compatible with the #495/#497 AutoStar. Please verify that you have a #495, #497, or LX-90 AutoStar before ordering. If your AutoStar does not have numeric keys, it is not compatible with this cable. If you’re not sure, please read this page carefully to determine which model AutoStar you have.
Most modern laptops do not have a serial port. If yours does not, you will also need an adapter to connect the serial (DB-9 RS-232) end of this cable to your laptop. We are now stocking this adapter: USB to RS-232 Serial Adapter
